Both sandy and clayey soils are susceptible to loss of strength and <br />stiffness. In general, adverse effects of liquefaction or cyclic softening can <br />include sand boils, loss of bearing support for structural foundations, excessive <br />ground settlement, and seismically -induced lateral ground deformations. <br />As shown on the State of California Seismic Hazard Zones Map for the Orange <br />Quadrangle (CGS, 1998), the northern majority of the site is not located within an <br />area that has been identified by the State of California as being potentially <br />susceptible to liquefaction (Figure 5, Seismic Hazard Map). However, the <br />southernmost portion of the project site is located within an area that has been <br />identified by the State of California as being potentially susceptible to liquefaction <br />(Figure 5, Seismic Hazard Map).
