MainPlace Mall Transformation Project 12126.001
and parking structures. The Conceptual Site Plan prepared by Omniplan
Architects and dated May 2, 2018 has been used as the base map for Figure 2,
Exploration Location Map, included with this report. Description of the planned
transformation is included in the document entitled "MainPlace District, Specific
Development Plan No. 93, City of Santa Ana, dated May 2018".
1.2 Objective and Scope of Work
The primary objective of our geotechnical exploration is to provide you with 1)
design considerations for the proposed transformation plan for the site and 2)
preliminary recommendations for the associated developments. It should be
noted that these recommendations are intended for planning purposes only and
recommendations for design and construction will be developed form design
level exploration.
The scope of work performed for our exploration consists of the following tasks:
Research - A background review was performed of readily available, relevant
geotechnical and geological literature pertinent to the project site. We also
conducted a review of Leighton's previous projects (Leighton, 2004) east of the
project site.
We also reviewed the geotechnical investigation report and geotechnical
observation and compaction report by Irvine Soils Engineering, Inc. (ISE 1985a,
1985b, 1986, and 1987) for the previous improvement within the proposed
project site.
Documents reviewed in preparation of this report are presented in Appendix A,
References.
Field Exploration — Field exploration consisting of eight (8) eight -inch diameter
hollow -stem soil borings (LB-1 through LB-8) drilled and sampled at the site on
August 20, 2018 and October 29 and 30, 2018. The soil borings were drilled to
depths between 16.5 and 51.5 feet below ground surface (bgs). The
approximate locations of the explorations are shown on Figure 2, Exploration
Location Map.
As a part of our field exploration, two (2) field infiltration tests were performed at
the site (LB-3 and LB-6) in Parcel 6 and Parcel 1, respectively.
2
Leighton
