We began by conducting Listening
Sessions and, as a result, identified that the Number 1 concern for both residents and community stakeholders
was safety. The residents talked about rival gangs living on the same block and the many shootings that keep
everyone locked in their homes. The Santa Ana Police Department Commander confirmed that this is one of
the toughest neighborhoods in the city, not only because gang members live there, but also because of the
presence of members of a drug cartel.
The residents as well as the stakeholders want the neighborhood to be safe for the sake of everyone, but
especially for the children and youth who live there. The residents want to feel proud of where they live, but
that is currently not the situation. Both the children and the adults avoid telling people where they live
because of the negative stigma and assumptions that are put on everyone who lives there,
Proposal
OC Human Relations is proposing to expand on our previous work in Cedar Evergreen, by providing conflict
resolution training and support for Santa Ana neighborhoods, to help in creating safe and healthy
neighborhoods,
Al Constructive Conflict Engagement Skills TraininL($7,000): OC Human Relations proposes to
strengthen neighborhoods by providing Constructive Conflict Resolution Training so that there is a
common language and approach for addressing conflict in a constructive manner as soon as conflict
arises.
M
OC Human Relations is a 501(c)(3) charitable ocgani:otion. rox 10#33.0438086, www.ochumanrelations.org
