DESIGN GUIDELINES 14 <br />DG -149 Common open space should be adequately shaded <br />through the use of trees (see landscape plant palette for <br />recommended trees) or shade structures. Where possible, <br />seating areas should be located to take advantage of shade <br />opportunities. <br />Example of private open space amenities, including fireplaces, lounge <br />seating, and trellis structures. <br />C. Private Open Space <br />DG -150 Private open space associated with a particular use should <br />be adjacent to that structure when possible to allow ease <br />of use. <br />DG -151 Open spaces, courtyards, and circulation corridors should <br />be designed to be visible from as many dwelling units as <br />possible. <br />DG - 152 Private open space may be gated or physically separated <br />through the use of structures or landscaping. <br />DG -153 Entry gates should be clearly visible and accentuated <br />through the use of decorative paving or architectural <br />treatments. <br />DG - 154 Private open space should provide shade opportunities for <br />users. <br />4.5.3 Signage and Wayfinding <br />The two primary purposes of signage within the Specific Plan area are <br />to bring people into the site and easily allow them to navigate the <br />area once they arrive. <br />The Specific Plan anticipates a number of different uses mixed <br />throughout the site to create the urban form. As a result, clear and <br />concise signage and wayfinding elements will play an important role <br />in the movement of people from off -site or parking areas to their <br />intended use. This can be accomplished through the use of: <br />directional and identification signage <br />informational kiosks or interactive maps <br />paving material changes <br />landscaping and other softscape technique <br />Additionally, the Specific Plan area is located at the intersection of <br />the 1-5 and SR-22 Freeways, providing opportunity for freeway - <br />oriented signs that help visitors identify buildings and uses within the <br />planning area. <br />MAINPLACE SPECIFIC PLAN 1 4-23 <br />
