REQUEST <br />COUNCIL <br />FOR <br />ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />OCTOBER 1, 2019 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROVE EQUPMENT PURCHASE <br />ORDER FROM THE NATIONAL FITNESS <br />CAMPAIGN, LLC (NFC) FOR THE <br />PURCHASE OF A NFC FITNESS COURT <br />AT JEROME PARK FOR AN AMOUNT NOT <br />TO EXCEED $103,825 TO BE FUNDED BY <br />THE GENERAL FUND <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5,61 <br />/s/ Kristine Rid <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 15' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2na Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />I9I1IN [NJ UI l01:a <br />Approve equipment purchase order to the National Fitness Campaign, LLC (NFC) for a NFC <br />Fitness Court at Jerome Park for an amount not to exceed $103,825, funded by the General Fund, <br />subject to non -substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On February 4, 2019, the City of Santa Ana submitted a grant application to the National Fitness <br />Campaign, LLC (NFC) to build five fitness courts at Jerome Park, El Salvador Park, Delhi Park, <br />Rosita Park and Civic Center Plaza of the Flags. <br />On March 15, 2019, the City of Santa Ana received five $30,000 grants from NFC to participate as <br />a Model City in the 2019 National Fitness Campaign. Approval of the multi -site application was <br />based on the City of Santa Ana's commitment to free health and fitness options, development of <br />stakeholder consensus, and the exceptional and active public spaces where we will launch our <br />Fitness Courts and the NFC program. <br />On June 4, 2019, the City Council adopted a resolution accepting the 2019 NFC grant of $30,000 <br />per sight and agreeing to endeavor to provide $90,000 per site to fund the remaining purchase <br />price of the equipment plus the cost of installation at five City sites (Civic Center site has been <br />removed from the list and a new location will be selected). <br />The Fitness Court is a 32' x 35' outdoor bodyweight circuit training system that supports 28 <br />simultaneous users on 30 separate pieces of equipment that are grouped into seven stations. The <br />7 movement, 7 minute system provides a full -body workout to people of all ability levels. The <br />integrated system includes a sports floor to simulate the indoor gym exercise and steel bodyweight <br />training wall provides users with many exercise combinations. <br />29A-1 <br />
