overgrowth into passageways, walks, streets, view of signs or in any manner <br />deemed objectionable by the Director's Representative. Dead or clamaged <br />limbs shall be removed so that no projections or stubs remain. <br />Pruning/trimming shall be done by hand pruners, shears or toppers in a <br />manner to permit plants to grow naturally in accordance with their normal <br />growth characteristics. "Box hedging" may be required on sonic shrubs, as <br />designated by the Director's Representative. "Box hedged" plants will be <br />required to have all five sides level and straight to the satisfaction of the <br />Director's Representative. In order to achieve straight and level lines of <br />shrubs the Contractor shall run string lines to assure straight pruning, Shear <br />hedging or severe pruning/trimming of plants, unless authorized by the <br />Director's Representative, is not permitted. Topping of plants whose <br />natural growth stems from the base of the plant is not permitted. Should the <br />Contractor toll, shear hedge or severely prune plants and disfigure or <br />damage the plants, the Contractor shall be responsible for replacing those <br />plants with like kind and size, subject to approval by the Director's <br />Representative. The Contractor may be requested from time to time to raise <br />the bottom of the shrubs for security reasons. <br />2.2.2 Mulching of Bare Areas <br />2.2.2.1 In all shrub areas where bare soil is visible the Contractor shall apply US <br />Composting Council STA tested and approved compost mulch 3"-4" minus <br />by 2" thick minimum twice per year (third week of January and July) and <br />as necessary to maintain uniform and complete coverage. Leaf litter and - <br />other organic materials other than mulch shall be removed on a continuous <br />basis, <br />2.2.2.2 All bare soil areas shall be cultivated to 6" deep on a weekly basis while <br />awaiting fresh mulch. <br />2.3 Vine Care and Services <br />2.3.1 Maintenance <br />2.3.1.1 Contractor shall trim the vine continuously and once it reaches the top of <br />the wall or at a specific height on the wall, as determined by the Director's <br />Representative, the Contractor shall not allow the vine to encroach above <br />the designated height. The Contractor shall also prune the vitro back to the <br />wall to reduce the width and weight of the vine. The Contractor shall keep <br />vines off telephone poles, plant material or other non -wall surfaces at all <br />times. <br />2.3.2 Planting <br />2.3.2.1 The Contractor shall plant each your as a part of the base agreement (at <br />his/herexpense) 200-lgalton ParthenociSsrtS tricuspiclata (Boston Ivy) vines <br />at 1 S' on center. The Conti -actor shall coordinate with Irrigation Consultant <br />to assure the new vines receive adequate irrigation.
