Diana
From: jessie Lopez <ejeslopz@gmail.com>
Sent: Tuesday, March 17, 2020 5:02 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Public comment
Good evening,
My name is Jessie Lopez and I am a lifelong Santa Ana resident living in the Mabury Park neighborhood
COVID-19 (also known as coronavirus) has been classified as a global pandemic. Governor Gavin Newsom
recently issued an executive order that authorizes local governments to enact policy to provide economic relief
for our impacted community members. As a result of the current situation and real lack of knowledge
surrounding COVID-19, I urge Santa Ana City Council to issue a legal order instituting a moratorium on the
following:
• Utility Shut Offs and Late Fees For Non Payment of Utility Bills
• Parking Enforcement and Citations
• We should impose a freeze on all rents, mortgages and a moratorium on all evictions and foreclosures
• Proposal on how to mitigate potential outbreak in Santa Ana jails
We are the fourth -most densely populated city in the country and this is more of a reason to take on these
precautions. There is real fear in our community about attending public gatherings, but more than that, real
consequences to those who are being severely impacted by the economic collapse.
As a resident, I have continuously heard: 'Public safety comes first'. I agree. Let us be positive examples of
what can be accomplished when we commit to putting the wellbeing of our communities first.
Thank you,
Jessie Lopez
