I went to school at Kennedy, and lived my whole
life on Lyon Street. I still remember using my first email address to invite Mayor Pulido to our Read Across
America event when I was in elementary school. I am writing as a concerned citizen to urge the city to place a
moratorium on mortgage, and most importantly, evictions.
The reasons are simple and humane. People need to stay home. I personally lost my part time job because of
COVID, and have no income to help my moan out with rent. Without a moratorium on evictions, families like
mine will face homelessness, adding to the crisis our county is already undergoing. We would be at risk for
contagion if we were to be out on the street. The stress itself would be detrimental to our health. A moratorium
on evictions is the bare minimum our city can do to ease residents's worries. A moratorium on mortgages will
make it more likely for our landlords to pardon a month or two of rent. Many of our residents work in jobs that
DO NOT have pay sick leave, or that spontaneously laid them off. The economy is taking a hit nationwide. A
month or two of rent will help residents have one less thing to worry about.
I urge you all to consider this. I am scared. So many people are scared. Please help us.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Yadira Guadalupe Torres
(714)908-6444
