Park Development Collaborate with state <br />representatives to increase <br />funding for parks within the city. <br />Identify projects that qualify for <br />Proposition 68 funding and apply <br />to grants that will fund city <br />projects. <br />Science Education Support legislation and grant <br />programs that fund education <br />programs on climate -change, eco- <br />systems, and zoology. <br />Planning and Building Agency <br />(TPA) Working with the City and its representatives, <br />to explore options for funding of a mobile library unit <br />through the State Budget. <br />(TPA) Worked closely with the City's legislative <br />representatives to provide information on priority <br />park projects within the City, information about state <br />grants submitted by the City, potential opportunities <br />to make additional funding available for park <br />development through the Santa Ana River <br />Conservancy Program, and other state grant <br />programs. <br />Applied for and received $52 million in state grants <br />for the construction of two new parks on currently <br />vacant land. <br />One grant provides $3.6 million to develop a 0.75- <br />acre park on the northwest corner of Standard and <br />McFadden avenues. The second grant, for $1.6 <br />million, will help fund a 1.9-acre park at the <br />northeast corner of Raitt and Myrtle streets. <br />The funding is part of $254.9 million in grants <br />announced by the California Department of Parks <br />and Recreation's Statewide Park Development and <br />Community Revitalization Grant Program. The <br />grants are funded by Proposition 68, the California <br />Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, <br />and Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018. <br />(TPA) Worked with a coalition of stakeholders, <br />including the cities legislative representatives, to <br />secure state budget funding for the Discovery <br />Science Center. The City supported the funding <br />effort, led by Senator Umberg, which ultimately led <br />to the Discovery Science Center receiving $10 <br />million through the State Budget. <br />The Planning and Building Agency's objective is to provide a safe, attractive, and business -friendly community through the <br />implementation of state and local construction codes, as well as planning and regulating future land uses. <br />INITIATIVE SUMMARY <br />Medical and <br />Recreational Cannabis <br />Support legislation and <br />regulatory actions that maintain <br />local control, consider health <br />and safety requirements, <br />provide for community education <br />opportunities, and increase <br />assistance and funding to <br />municipalities that have adopted <br />ordinances related to cannabis. <br />SCORECARD UPDATE <br />(HK) HK continues to keep the City apprised of <br />cannabis -related legislative and regulatory <br />developments consistent with the City's objectives <br />of maintaining local control, ensuring for health and <br />safety, and providing education outreach and <br />assistance. In a recent House Energy and <br />Commerce Committee hearing, continuing NIH <br />research and FDA health and safety responsibilities <br />were emphasized. HK has also monitored the <br />advancement of legislation HR 1595 - the SAFE <br />19C-25 <br />City of Santa Ana 2019 Legislative Scorecard 10 <br />
