ools and applying for financial aid. Some lack role models who attended college, and may therefore feel that college is not
them. Additionally, research "illustrates a correlation between youth dropouts and juvenile criminal behavior (see, e.g.,
irnberry et al.1985; Fagan and Pabon 1990). In the state of California alone, dropouts are estimated to be responsible for
billion dollars in annual juvenile crime costs. Incarceration during adolescence is associated with lower educational
iinment and decreased future earnings (Waldfogel 1994a; Waldfogel 1994b; Hjalmarsson 2008). Furthermore, juvenile
ie not only has an immediate impact on the delinquent and their victim(s), but can impose negative externalities on those
directly involved with criminal acts (see, e.g., Grogger 1997)." College Bound is our Club's strategic prevention model that
-ks with teens from their freshman year in high school and provides the resources and mentors that help keep them on
;k for a strong future so that they can be positive contributors in their community.
W711eIYr1
