75A3Vacant and abandoned residential, commercial, industrial, and historicproperties are a significant problem and can depreciate property values,reduce property tax revenue, attract crime, create the potential for apermanent loss of a historical resource, degrade the quality of life withinthe community and foster an unsafe and unhealthy environment forresidents.Code Enforcement survey found an approximately 175 properties havebeen abandoned or allowed to remain vacant without proper monitoringor security, leading to vandalism, squatting, arson, and destruction.The City Council desires to amend the City’s Code in order to provideadditional tools for staff to proactively enforce the City’s registration andmaintenance program.PROGRAM BACKGROUND
