75A3Vacant and abandoned residential, commercial, industrial, and historicproperties are a significant problem and can depreciate property values,reduce property tax revenue, attract crime, create the potential for apermanent loss of a historical resource, degrade the quality of life withinthe community and foster an unsafe and unhealthy environment forresidents.Code Enforcement survey found an approximately 175 properties havebeen abandoned or allowed to remain vacant without proper monitoringor security, leading to vandalism, squatting, arson, and destruction.The City Council desires to amend the City’s Code in order to provideadditional tools for staff to proactively enforce the City’s registration andmaintenance program.PROGRAM BACKGROUND
