Orozco, Norma
From: Melissa Palmerin <palmerinmelissa@yahoo.com>
Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2020 2:10 PM
To: eComment
Subject: items: 2013, 20D, 2213, 2513, 25E, 6013, 7513, 85A
My name is Melissa Palmerin . I live in ward 6 and I oppose items 2013, 20D, 2513, 25E, 6013, 7513, and
85A.
strongly oppose item 20B. This item reinforces the notion that the police dep
reformed. The $22,950 should go to those who are certified mental health spec
This money should go to creating a department that will be first responders to
calls, instead of the police. Police officers should not be arresting people or di
situations with persons of disabilities, mental illness, or who suffer from substa
I also, have a few questions for this item. It seems that training has already occ
1, 2019, based on the document provided . Do we have any data showing how
15 months, the training has made for people imprisoned or accused of crimes i
facility or in contact with correctional staff, "safe" and "positive"? Has the city c
past allocated funds for mental health training? Last question is, what other tr;
provided to SAPID?
20D: For 20D, when googling the address provided it is a house. If the goal is to
Avenue, why is the city acquiring houses? It's hard to believe people will be wil
homes willingly without being forced by means of eminent domain or other tac
oppose displacing families from their houses, in the name of bike lines, traffic s
lights, and widening the street.
2213: June 16, 2020 this city council approved the purchase of 5 vehicles at the i
because SAPID asked for them. Yet, no evidence was provided showing that the
in fact needed. Now 2 months later, SAPID now wants to purchase a compact a
for $352,653. To further militarize a department, that can be seen in police del
nationally, as a way to suppress protestors rights to assemble should be condel
Ana. I strongly oppose item 22B.
t
