(n = 41) <br />80 <br />70 <br />60 <br />50 <br />Y <br />C <br />u 40 <br />0 <br />a <br />30 <br />20 <br />10 <br />0 <br />Use of force Unbecoming conduct Driving Harassment <br />■ Yes ■ No <br />The proportions of agencies that can and cannot review the investigations of internal complaints are <br />displayed in figure 6. <br />• Seventeen agencies (41 percent) reported that their civilian oversight body had authority to hear all <br />internal complaints; while 7 agencies (17 percent) said their board had a limited authority to hear internal <br />complaints. <br />• Hearing internal use of force complaints was the most frequently reported authority (21 oversight bodies, <br />51 percent of agencies). <br />• Hearing internal complaints related to driving was least likely among oversight bodies; only 17 boards <br />(41 percent) of boards had the authority to review this complaint type. <br />• Seven agencies (17 percent) reported their oversight body as having the authority to review other types <br />of internal complaints. When specifying "other" types of complaints, department contacts named all <br />officer -involved shootings, death/serious injury by officers, complaints made by a chief, complaints that <br />generate internal affairs investigations, and disciplinary decisions. <br />65A-24 Civilian Oversight Survey <br />
