Agreement for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Program <br />October 06, 2020 <br />Page 2 <br />be used to address pedestrian and bicycle safety through a series of safety education workshops <br />and events. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries in traffic <br />collisions involving bicycles and pedestrians. <br />The bilingual education program is intended to reach a wide cross section of community members <br />and will include a series of comprehensive workshops. Some workshops consist of educating adults <br />about traffic safety and others consist of educating youth about bicycle safety and maintenance. At <br />the end of the adult series, community members will recommend improvements to the Public Works <br />Agency to guide the pursuit of future grant funds. At the end of the youth series, community youth <br />will earn a bicycle, which they will have repaired and maintained during the course of the classes. <br />The program includes family -friendly bicycle safety skills classes taught by the League of American <br />Bicyclists Certified Instructors, access to nighttime lights and helmets distributed to the community <br />during safety equipment events geared toward pedestrians and bicyclists, equipment <br />demonstration events, and youth pedestrian and bicycle traffic safety fairs at community events. All <br />tasks outlined in the Program scope of work will be delivered directly by SAAS and by Cal Walks <br />as a sub -consultant to SAAS, and will be paid by SAAS's fiscal agent Charitable Ventures of <br />Orange County, Inc. (Exhibit 2) utilizing the Office of Traffic Safety grant award. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />Approval of the requested appropriation adjustment will recognize Office of Traffic Safety <br />Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety grant funds in the amount of $100,000 as follows: $80,000 will be <br />recognized in the OTS-PWA Traffic Safety Grants, Federal Grants -Indirect revenue account (No. <br />16517002-52001), and $20,000 in the OTS-PWA Traffic Safety Grants, Reserve Appropriation <br />revenue account (No. 16517002-59011).
