GARDEN GROVE <br />April 19, 2021 <br />Request for Proposal Recommendation <br />Santa Ana Waste and Recycling Contract <br />Dear Honorable Mayor and City Council of Santa Ana: <br />• A ' 0 ' • <br />Kim Nguyen <br />Mayor Pro Tern - District 6 <br />As Mayor Pro Tern of the City of Garden Grove, I recommend Republic Services as a committed <br />service provider and valued member of the Garden Grove community. I have witnessed the <br />diligent work of Republic's essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. I have also <br />witnessed the company's work in the community. <br />As a corporate partner, Republic Services has supported countless charities in the area. These <br />include: Thomas House Shelters; the Garden Grove Boys and Girls Club; the Garden Grove <br />Chamber of Commerce; the Garden Grove Community Foundation; the Garden Grove <br />Strawberry Festival; and Helping Others Prepare for Eternity (H.O.P.E.). Republic can always be <br />counted on to host a "Touch a Truck" event at our National Night Out or provide environmental <br />education to school children or residents who participate in the compost events each year. <br />I thank Republic Services for its leadership throughout the community. During the COVID-19 <br />pandemic, the company spent $700,000 feeding its employees and providing gift cards in <br />Orange County. In the process, Republic supported multiple local restaurants in Garden Grove in <br />their time of greatest need and provided thousands of meals for its employees. <br />I am proud to have Republic Services as one of our local partners.
