Orozco, Norma
From:
Sent:
To:
Subject:
Dear Mayor and City Council,
Tristan Miller-Mansey <tristan@mansey.com>
Monday, August 16, 2021 9:19 PM
eComment
Waste Management item 43 8/17
Please consider CR&R for the waste management bid. CR&R team offers the best service for the price andalso
resides in Santa Ana. We do not support the recommendation for Athens based in LA. Athens will increase the
landfill and create more pollution.
For many of the reasons outlined below - we support CR&R - including a lower carbon footprint, environmental
superiority, great rates while Athens is non -union and not local.
Low rates are not created equal
39% of Santa Ana housing units are apartments (multi -family)
Apartments receive 33% increase in rates
Businesses receive 16% increase in rates
Single family residents receive 22% decrease in rates
Least environmentally intelligent solution — out of county
Higher carbon footprint
City of Industry MRF over 30 miles away
Increased vehicle travel equals more emissions, more traffic, and lower air quality
33%higher landfill disposal (20,000 tons per year more)
Anaerobic digestion is 320% better for the environment than composting.
EMSW is 84% cleaner than coal
Non -union workforce
• No signedcollective bargaining agreement anywhere!
• City's largest contract would be non -union
• Most city employees represented by union — CASA, SEIU, SAMA, SAPOA, SAPMA
• Lowest overall employee benefit package (Special meeting, staff presentation page 41)
• Lowest employee retention (Special meeting, staff presentation page 41)
Thank you!
Tristan Miller
