Credit Hour Definition <br />Pacific College measures instruction in terms of semester credits. A semester credit hour is defined as an <br />amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence of student <br />achievement that is an institutionally established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less <br />than: <br />One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out -of -class work each <br />week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester or the equivalent amount of work over a different <br />amount of time. <br />At least an equivalent amount of work as required in paragraph (1) of this definition for other academic <br />activities as established by the institution, including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, <br />and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours. <br />To comply with the federal definition, courses offered at Pacific College have an expectation of two hours <br />of work outside of class for each hour of lecture, and one hour of work outside of class for each hour of <br />lab work. <br />Semester credit hours are defined as follows: <br />For lecture classes, one semester credit is equal to 15 clock hours of instruction. <br />For laboratory classes, one semester credit is equal to 30 clock hours of instruction. <br />For clinical/practicum classes, one semester credit is equal to 45 clock hours. Skills lab hours in <br />nursing programs are considered clinical. <br />Clock hours are defined as follows: <br />• A clock hour is a minimum of 50 minutes in which lectures, demonstrations, and similar class <br />activities are conducted. <br />Credit, Sources of <br />Students applying for advanced standing must submit official transcripts to the Registrar's Office for <br />evaluation. Transfer credits are not used in determining grade point averages, and are issued the grade <br />"TR". A minimum of 25% of degree coursework must be completed at Pacific College. The maximum <br />number of graduate -level credits acceptable for transfer is 9 semester units. <br />Transfer Credit <br />Students who have completed coursework at a college or university since leaving high school may submit <br />their official academic transcripts for evaluation of transfer credit to Pacific College. Students with <br />degrees from non-U.S. colleges and universities must submit official translation and an evaluation <br />prepared by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of <br />International Credential Evaluators (AICE)-member organization. <br />Pacific College accepts credit from regionally accredited institutions. It may also accept credits from <br />institutions that are accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the U.S. Department of <br />Education, provided that the quality of the institution and instruction can be verified. <br />The official descriptions of the courses submitted for consideration for transfer must be comparable to <br />the coursework at Pacific College. Official course descriptions from the catalog of the college or university <br />where credit was earned will be used to determine comparability, and must be provided by the student <br />during the evaluation process. <br />Only college -level credits will be considered for transfer. No remedial or developmental courses will be <br />considered for transfer.
