The following document describes the services I provide and my
credentials.
My goal is to help caregivers of all species of animals learn how to successfully apply evidence -
based training technology. I focus on force free methodology with an emphasis on
reinforcement training techniques to ensure high standards in animal welfare. I teach
information Learned from the experimental analysis of behavior. However my primary objective
is to facilitate practical application. My goal is for animal caregivers to apply what they learn and
fine tune their technique to ultimately provide the best care possible for the animals they
steward.
Objectives:
In general most facilities have two objectives. Developing staff members' skills and knowledge
and achieving specific behavior goals for the animals in the collection.
Animal Training Goals:
Animal training goals typically fall under the following headings.
*Training to cooperate in medical care and routine preventative health care procedures
*Training to facilitate husbandry procedures and make day to day animal care easy and stress
free
*Training to address and prevent behavior problems
*Training for educational presentations, interpretive exhibits, keeper talks and guest
interaction
*Training for conservation, breeding and/or to enhance scientific knowledge
I will work with you to help identify and prioritize behavioral objectives within your collection. I
also provide materials to help staff members organize, track and facilitate training progress.
Staff Development:
Staff development is also a primary focus as this is critical to achieving animal training
goals, For an initial on site visit I recommend a combination of classroom learning and one on
one coaching during training sessions.
2
