The proposed approach is categorized within three tiers:
Tier 1: Before a Crisis.
Relationships are at the heart of our community -based dispute resolution initiatives. We collaborate with city and
community leaders to understand the types of conflicts that have the highest negative impact on the neighborhood in
order to customize our workshops and conflict skills trainings. We will offer "Positive Ways to Manage Conflict intro
workshop" twice a year reaching 60 residents across the two workshops reaching up to 60 residents per year. The
workshop is designed to address basic strategies to take when conflict arises and make them aware of the many
community resources available. Individuals who wish to learn more may choose to attend our 1.5-
day "Conflict Reduction Skills" training (12 hour training) designed to empower individuals to become conflict-
onscious community leaders. This training will be offered two times a year, reaching 30 residents annually. IOur goal is
to raise people's "Conflict IQ" and give them the tools they need to successfully manage conflict in their lives without
the need for police, court and the legal system involvement. We will introduce stakeholders to our robust community
mediation services which can assist with a myriad of issues from business and neighbor disputes to comprehensive
divorce mediation and parenting services.
Tier 2: During a Crisis.
Our mediation team will respond to crisis incidents relating to human relations issues like hate crimes, community
unrest, and intergroup conflict. Mediators are neutral third parties who serve to facilitate dialogue among community
members in conflict. The presence of a professional mediation team is known to help de-escalate tensions and
increase positive communication between parties in real time. Mediators would response to residents to mediate
conflict via phone, virtually or in -person. We anticipate providing mediation to residents in Santa Ana, with focus on
Townsend/Myrtle neighborhoods with a minimum of 12 mediation assessments and/or mediation sessions per year.
Tier 3: After a Crisis.
Our mediation team will continue to promote healing with all relevant parties after a crisis incident with the
understanding that healing takes time. We will host community listening and reconciliation events as needed with the
......I ..i ......11:.... ......... .....J r..6. dld:....
