The Medical Office Assistant program offers students <br />a sound education providing them with the competencies and skills to enter the healthcare <br />workforce as a viable team member. <br />Duration 624 hours, Maximum length 9 months <br />Medical Terminology (online) <br />Program Description <br />This course is designed to teach the basics of medical terminology. Medical Terminology <br />orients students to the accurate uses, definitions, spelling, and pronunciations of medical terms <br />used in the health care field. Students will analyze terms while learning to divide them into <br />suffixes, prefixes, and combining forms. Emphasis will be placed on relating medical terms to <br />the structural organization of the body. Through practical applications, students will learn to <br />link abnormal conditions and diseases with diagnostic tests and procedures. In addition, <br />students will be introduced to common medical abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols. <br />Duration 96 hours, Maximum length 2 months <br />Phlebotomy Technician I — 20 hour (classroom) <br />Program Description <br />The phlebotomist is one of the most important positions in the clinical laboratory. Without the <br />phlebotomist there would be no specimen for the clinical laboratory to run tests on. The <br />program follows guidelines established by the California Department of Public Health <br />Laboratory Field Services in preparation for the state and national phlebotomy technician <br />certification exams and employment as a certified phlebotomy technician. The program <br />focuses on state -identified advanced topics of anatomy and medical terminology, infection <br />control, and procedures necessary to appropriately collect laboratory specimens and <br />communication with patients. This program will prepare the certified phlebotomy technician to <br />work in a clinical laboratory environment and healthcare setting. <br />This program is appropriate for students with 1040 or more hours of on-the-job phlebotomy <br />experience in the past 5 years. Students must have evidence of completing a minimum of 50 <br />venipunctures, e.g. Letter of Phlebotomy Experience for California Certification (PDF) signed by <br />an MD, DO, or CLB. Students must pass a national certification examination from one of the <br />certifying organizations approved by the California Department of Public Health. <br />Duration 20 hours, Maximum length 2 months <br />Phlebotomy Technician I — 40 hour (classroom) <br />Program Description <br />The phlebotomist is one of the most important positions in the clinical laboratory.
