MDCA1202: Externship 11 <br />Credit Hours: 2.5 <br />Clock 115 (Ground Minimum 80, Online Maximum <br />Hours: 35) <br />Students in this course will develop a more thorough <br />understanding of the role of a medical assistant in a <br />healthcare facility. Clinical and administrative medical <br />assistant functions are expected to be performed with <br />greater skill, professionalism and understanding. <br />Students will continue to be supervised and evaluated <br />on skills acquired in the program content courses and <br />should have a better awareness of why, how, and when <br />the skills are performed. Students may perform <br />phlebotomy, injections, patient record maintenance, <br />vital sign measurement, patient exam preparation, and/ <br />or other medical assistant duties as assigned by the <br />physician, on -site supervisor, or externship coordinator. <br />MDCA1312: Medical Assisting A <br />Credit Hours: 3 <br />Clock 80 (Theory 40. Lab 40) (Ground 40, Online <br />Hours: 40) <br />Students in this course will practice various <br />administrative skills including scheduling appointments. <br />They will learn medical terms, anatomy & physiology, <br />and common diseases and disorders of the skeletal, <br />integumentary and muscular body systems, They will <br />practice keyboarding, apply positive communication <br />skills, practice diagnostic procedures and perform vital <br />sign procedures. They will [earn first aid, rehabilitative <br />procedures, the role of the medical assistant in the <br />health community, and team member responsibilities. <br />Prerequisites: <br />None <br />MDCA1323: General Patient Care, Skeletal and <br />Muscular Systems <br />Credit Hours: 3.5 <br />Clock Hours: 55/40/0 <br />This course will provide an overview of the medical <br />terminology, diseases, and disorders of the skeletal, <br />muscular, integumentary systems. Students will explore <br />the anatomy and physiology of each system along with <br />Learning the diagnostic procedures and various <br />treatment resolutions. They will gain an understanding <br />of medical asepsis, first aid and rehabilitative <br />procedures. They will also learn and engage in role <br />playing ethical behaviors and positive communication <br />styles. Students will learn how to apply their critical <br />thinking and clinical skills to prepare them for work in a <br />professional healthcare setting and in the community. They will practice keyboarding, apply positive <br />communication skills, practice diagnostic procedures <br />and perform vital sign procedures. <br />Prerequisites: <br />None <br />MDCA1323: Medical Ethics, Nervous and Sensory <br />Systems <br />Credit Hours: 3,5 <br />Clock Hours: 55/40/0 <br />This course will provide the basic concepts related to <br />medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical <br />ethics, and the nervous and sensory systems. Students <br />will apply positive communication skills, practice <br />diagnostic procedures, perform vital sign procedures, <br />and First Aid CPR.
