NUR 599. Independent Study in Advanced Nursing <br />1 credit — 6 credits <br />Independent research, study, special project development <br />and/or directed reading in an area beyond what is directly <br />covered in the nursing program. This is a variable unit <br />course of one (1), two (2) or three 3 credits units. May be <br />repeated for credit as an independent study course for a total <br />of six (6) units. Enrollment restricted to graduate nursing <br />students. <br />PHL 201. Critical Reasoning <br />3 credits <br />This course provides the basic tools for analytical reasoning. <br />Students will explore practical applications of logic. A <br />variety of reasoning skills from verbal argument analysis to <br />formal logic, visual and statistical reason, scientific <br />methodology, and creative thinking will be introduced. <br />PSY 101. General Psychology <br />3 credits <br />This course is a scientific consideration of the psychological <br />foundations of behavior. It will investigate psychological <br />development, motivation, sensation, perception, learning, <br />thinking, language, psychological measurement, and <br />principles of mental illness and mental health. <br />PSY 102. Human Growth and Development <br />3 credits <br />This course explores the different stages of human life, <br />beginning with prenatal and progressing through infancy, <br />childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Human development <br />is explored from the psychological point of view. <br />SOC 100. Introduction to Sociology <br />3 credits <br />This course analyzes human societies and <br />relationships through a study of cultural origins, <br />personality development, social interaction, and <br />social change. <br />VN 110. Fundamentals <br />10 credits <br />This course is designed to provide the learner with the <br />fundamental nursing concepts necessary for client -centered <br />care. Areas of study include introduction to Vocational <br />Nursing practice; health care delivery system; introduction <br />to anatomy and physiology; nursing process; hygiene and <br />infection control; safety and emergency response; legal, <br />ethical aspects of care; therapeutic communication; <br />culturally congruent care; growth and development; care of <br />the older adult; basic nutrition; and, fluid & electrolyte <br />balance. <br />VN 110-C. Fundamentals Clinical <br />4.5 credits <br />This course introduces the learner to evidenced -based <br />practices through demonstration and return -demonstration <br />of nursing skills required for a safe and quality client - <br />centered care. <br />VN 120. Introduction to Pharmacology, Pediatrics, <br />and Medical/Surgical <br />9 credits <br />This course provides the learner the opportunity to <br />understand the basics of pharmacology and a basic <br />introduction to Pediatric Nursing. Areas of study also include <br />peri-operative care, as well as care of clients with <br />integumentary, musculoskeletal & gastrointestinal disorders. <br />VN 120-C. Introduction to Pharmacology, <br />Pediatrics, and Medical/Surgical Clinical <br />4 credits <br />This is an evidenced -based practice course where learners <br />provide client -centered care to address the medical/surgical <br />needs of adults and pediatric clients. <br />VN 130. Medical/Surgical 2 <br />8 credits <br />This course covers the care of adult clients with medical - <br />surgical needs specifically those with endocrine, <br />cardiovascular, respiratory, hematologic, and immunologic <br />disorders. Professional behavior, leadership, supervision, <br />teamwork, and informatics are also incorporated in the <br />course. <br />VN 130-C. Medical/Surgical 2 Clinical <br />5 credits <br />This is an evidenced -based practice course where learners <br />apply the concepts of teamwork and collaboration in caring <br />for clients with medical/surgical and psychosocial needs. <br />VN 140. Medical/Surgical 3 & Maternity <br />7 credits <br />This course is about caring for adults with medical -surgical <br />needs specifically those with respiratory, cardiovascular, <br />urinary, and reproductive disorders. Maternal and newborn <br />nursing concepts are also discussed. <br />VN 140-C Medical/Surgical 3 & Maternity Clinical <br />5 credits <br />This is an evidenced -based practice course where learners <br />provide client -centered care to adults with medical -surgical <br />needs.
