<br /> Hazard Mitigation Plan | 2022 <br />Mitigation Strategies <br />- 103 - <br /> <br /> <br />Provide information on tools; partnership opportunities, and funding resources to assist in <br />implementing mitigation activities. <br /> <br />Protect Natural Systems <br />Support management and land use planning practices with hazard mitigation to protect life. <br /> <br />Preserve, rehabilitate, and enhance natural systems to serve hazard mitigation functions. <br /> <br />Promote Partnerships and Implementation <br />Strengthen communication and coordinate participation with public agencies, non-profit <br />organizations, business, and industry to support implementation. <br /> <br />Encourage leadership within the City and public organizations to prioritize and implement local <br />and regional hazard mitigation activities. <br /> <br />Enhance Emergency Services <br />Establish policy to ensure mitigation projects for critical facilities, services, and infrastructure. <br /> <br />Strengthen emergency operations by increasing collaboration and coordination among public <br />agencies, non-profit organizations, business, and industry. <br /> <br />Coordinate and integrate hazard mitigation activities where appropriate, with emergency <br />operations plans and procedures. <br /> <br />How are the Mitigation Action Items Organized? <br />The action items are a listing of activities in which City agencies and citizens can be engaged to <br />reduce risk. Each action item includes an estimate of the timeline for implementation. <br /> <br />The action items are organized within the following Mitigation Actions Matrix, which lists all of the <br />multi-hazard (actions that reduce risks for more than one specific hazard) and hazard-specific <br />action items included in the mitigation plan. Data collection and research and the public <br />participation process resulted in the development of these action items. The Matrix includes the <br />following information for each action item: <br /> <br />Funding Source <br />The action items can be funded through a variety of sources, possibly including the Annual <br />Budget, development fees, Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Hazard Mitigation Grant <br />Program (HMGP), Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant (BRIC), other Grants, <br />private funding, and other funding opportunities. <br /> <br />Lead Department <br />The Mitigation Actions Matrix assigns primary responsibility for each of the action items. The <br />hierarchies of the assignments vary – from positions to departments to committees. The primary <br />responsibility for implementing the action items falls to the entity shown as the “Lead Department”. <br />The lead department is the agency with regulatory responsibility to address hazards, or that is
