uahl" I r
I
r
ilow—
I A .
©
t
L►-
a I
-I,
I
Proposal to provide
Landscape Architectural Design for Standard -McFadden Park - RFP No. 21-055
Challenges and Solutions Map
Standard -McFadden Park
0
U
U
Adjacent high volume streets pose challenges including
noise, safety, and exposure to fumes and particulates.
The placement of active sports in this area can be a positive
solution given high use (more 'eyes' on the park) but will
require both landscape buffering and the potential of a tall
fence which can become a canvas for Art in Public Places.
This will allow protection from errant basketballs going into
the street or alley parking. It may also be important to keep
'language' away from the nearby residential development (as
players can become excitable).
The site is located within a liquefaction zone.
Following our geotechnical investigation with borings to 50'
deep, recommendations for the location of park amenities
will become more clear and therefore the design will reflect
solutions to address any potential challenge (currently
unknown).
Minimal opportunities for active recreation are available to
this community.
Access to recreation and fitness in the Cornerstone Village
neighborhood will be addressed with the construction of
this park which provides something for all ages and is
accessible by car, on foot, by nearby bus routes, and by
bicycle via the proposed bike lane project. The elimination
of a vacant parcel lessens illegal activities and discourages
homelessness.
Noise around nearby residential units on the north could be
a challenge.
By placing elements such as the fitness equipment, play
area, and picnic area in this proximity, it provides for 'less
vocal' uses than the skate park or basketball court and is
more conducive to families. It also keeps the children away
from the busy street corner.
Bike Lane (Future)
Pedestrian Access
Bus Stop
David Evans and Associates, Inc. I June 3, 2021 1 15
