OCFA uses the full suite of ArcGIS 9.3 <br />software, including ArcInfo and ArcView, along with ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcGIS <br />3D Analyst, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, and Map Production System —Atlas (MPS -Atlas). In <br />addition, ArcIMS and ArcGIS Server Advanced Enterprise are used for Web GIS <br />Capability. GIS Analysts are needed to analyze spatial data through the use of mapping <br />software; discover patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data; design digital maps <br />with geographic data and other data sources; create "shapefiles" to merge topographical data <br />with external data by layering external data over a topographical map; produce maps <br />showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data, including crime statistics and <br />hospital locations; develop mapping applications and tools; convert physical maps into a <br />digital form for computer usage; perform data munging and cleaning to convert data into its <br />desired form; produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations; and manage <br />a digital library of geographic maps in various file types. <br />.Qualifications: Degree in Computer Science, Geography, Surveying, Engineering or related <br />field; proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python; <br />proficiency with front end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and various <br />mapping languages; experience with mapping tools such as QGIS and Carto; experience <br />with GPS measuring tools; outstanding quantitative skill set; attention to detail and good <br />problem -solving skills; analytical mindset; excellent written and verbal communication; and <br />good interpersonal skills. <br />Challenge Solution <br />Scarcity of resources Utilized Linkedln groups of GIS professionals local in the area to <br />expand the talent pool of potential candidates. <br />Successful Placement #2 — Geospatial Analyst <br />Description: DFW requires a geospatial analyst to provide support for data maintenance and <br />map creation. Primary responsibilities include maintenance of <br />airport GIS databases and maps including data clean-up and topological correction, <br />assisting in identifying, compiling, and assessing geospatial and imagery datasets Identify <br />problems with data and propose solutions to correct persistent problems, and producing <br />quality professional work that is timely and accurate.
