• Warning <br />• Requirement that the work be repeated <br />• Reduction of grade on specific work in question <br />• A failing grade for the work in question, or for the entire course <br />• Any other penalty appropriate under the circumstances <br />The guidelines for appropriate penalties include an oral reprimand in cases where there is a <br />reasonable doubt that the student knew that the action constituted academic dishonesty, an "F" <br />on the particular paper, project or examination when the act was not premeditated or there were <br />significant mitigating circumstances or an "F" in the course where the dishonesty was <br />premeditated or planned. The instructor will document and report his or her action to the Chief <br />Academic Officer. <br />If the instructor utilizes the second option, he or she will notify the University of the type of <br />academic dishonesty observed, provide a written statement regarding the matter, and provide the <br />University with the names of all witnesses and all information and documentation necessary to <br />prepare a disciplinary hearing or other appropriate action by the University. Any of the specific <br />penalties and guidelines for appropriate penalties above may be considered by the University. In <br />the case of repeated infractions by a student, the University may exercise the option of dismissal. <br />Action by both the instructor and the University can be appealed through the appeal procedures <br />set forth below. <br />In addition to the reasons noted above, students may be disciplined for any of the following <br />reasons: <br />• Forgery, altering university documents, or knowingly providing false information; <br />• Disruption of the educational or administrative process of the University, by acts or <br />expression; <br />• Physical abuse or destruction of University property; <br />• Physical abuse or threat of abuse to students, University employees, or their families; <br />• Verbal abuse or intimidation of students or University employees including shouting, use <br />of profanity or other displays of hostility; <br />• Theft of University property; <br />• Sale or knowing possession of illegal drugs or narcotics; <br />• Possession or use or threats of use of explosives or deadly weapons on University <br />property; <br />• Lewd, indecent, or obscene behavior on University property or by telephone; <br />• Soliciting or assisting another in an act which would subject students to a serious <br />University sanction; <br />Page 27 of 65 <br />
