S <br />Where traffic control is necessary to accomplish the field <br />investigation, we will follow the lane closure requirements <br />specified by the City or other agencies with local <br />jurisdiction. If necessary, the field investigation can be <br />conducted during the weekend or at night to minimize the <br />impact to traffic. EMI will notify Underground Service Alert <br />prior to the start of the investigation so that existing utilities <br />are marked in the field before subsurface exploration. <br />EMI will use subcontractors to perform drilling and traffic <br />control setup. Subcontractor fees will be based on California Prevailing Wage rates. <br />Deliverables: Boring Location Plan and Work Plan <br />5. Laboratory Testing <br />Field logs of borings will be reviewed to select representative soil samples for laboratory testing. <br />Various laboratory tests will be performed on soil samples to determine or derive their physical <br />and engineering characteristics. Results of laboratory tests will be used for engineering <br />analyses to develop geotechnical recommendations. The following soil tests are usually <br />performed: <br />■ In -place Moisture & Density ■ Sand Equivalent <br />■ Grain Size Analysis ■ Expansion Potential <br />■ Atterberg Limits ■ Consolidation & Collapse Potential <br />■ Corrosivity ■ Maximum Density & Optimum Moisture Content <br />■ R-Value ■ Direct Shear & Unconsolidated-Undrained Triaxial <br />Additional tests may be necessary depending on the proposed improvements and subsurface <br />soil conditions. Laboratory tests will be conducted in accordance with ASTM Standards or <br />California Test Methods. EMI will use subcontractors to perform some of the laboratory soil <br />tests. <br />6. Geotechnical Engineering Analyses <br />Results from the field investigation and laboratory testing <br />will be used to develop idealized soil profiles and determine <br />representative soil parameters for use in geotechnical <br />analysis and design. Geotechnical analyses could include: <br />■ Evaluating the Stability of Cut, Fill, and Natural <br />Slopes <br />■ Evaluating Settlement of Roadway Embankments <br />and Deep Fills <br />■ Determining Lateral Pressures on Retaining <br />Structures Due to Earth and Surcharge Loads <br />■ Determining Axial and Lateral Capacity and <br />Settlement of Shallow and Deep Foundations <br />■ Designing Pavement Structural Sections <br />■ Assessing Liquefaction Potential of Subsurface Soils <br />■ Evaluating Static and Seismically -Induced Ground Subsidence <br />■ Assessing Site Response Due to Ground Shaking <br />■ Performing Soil -Structure Interaction <br />Proposal (RFP No. 23-123) City of Santa Ana <br />On -Call Geotechnical Engineering Services <br />
