Y,A Lfill <br />N 814 VB 01N OPD�ASS OSIA"fON � � ! <br />December 3, 2023 <br />Re: Agenda Item #19 on the December 5, 2023 Agenda <br />Dear Mayor Pro Tern Jessie Lopez: <br />As the proud representatives of the Floral Park Neighborhood Association, we write to you with <br />great concern regarding the upcoming resolution addressing the War in Gaza, scheduled for the <br />December 5 Santa Ana City Council meeting. <br />Our community is deeply committed to fostering a spirit of unity, understanding, and <br />constructive dialogue. While we respect the right to discuss global issues, we believe it is crucial <br />to consider the potential ramifications of such discussions on our local community. The board <br />of the Floral Park Neighborhood Association has authorized this letter, expressing our <br />apprehensions and respectfully requesting your reconsideration of the proposed resolution. <br />Our concerns can be summarized as follows: <br />Beyond City Jurisdiction: <br />We firmly believe that matters beyond the immediate jurisdiction of the City may divert <br />resources and attention away from addressing pressing local issues. While we acknowledge the <br />global significance of the War in Gaza, we urge you to prioritize matters directly impacting our <br />community. <br />Potential for Hateful Rhetoric: <br />Unfortunately, discussions surrounding international conflicts can sometimes escalate into <br />divisive and emotionally charged rhetoric. We fear that such an atmosphere may not only harm <br />the unity of our community but could also compromise the effectiveness of City Council <br />meetings. We encourage a focus on fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for all <br />Santa Ana residents. <br />Divisiveness of the Resolution: <br />Our primary concern lies in the one-sided nature of the proposed resolution, which we believe <br />may contribute to division rather than unity. We advocate for resolutions that encourage open <br />dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, ultimately strengthening the fabric of our diverse <br />community. <br />In light of these concerns, we kindly request that you consider advocating to your fellow <br />councilmembers, Ben Vazquez and Johnathan R. Hernandez, for the withdrawal of this item <br />from the agenda of the December 5 meeting. We believe that redirecting the Council's <br />
