Mark Rothenberg, Esq.
Lauren Tarkow, Esq.
Santa Ana, California

Re: Opposition to Resolution in Favor of a Ceasefire Between Israel
and Hamas (12/5 City Council Agenda Item 19)
Dear Mayor Amezcua and honorable members of the City Council:
As a threshold matter, our home address is not provided on this letter. It
is telling that we now feel the need to keep our home address in Santa
Ana private given the divisive and terrifying Resolution that has been
placed before you regarding the conflict in Gaza. Please note (and
Councilwoman Lopez —please pay particularly close attention as this
impacts your ward): Santa Ana is home to one of Orange County's oldest
Jewish communities which includes one of its oldest synagogues and
newest Jewish Day Schools. Your Jewish community now lives in fear.
Although I trust this is not the motivation behind the Resolution, it does
seem to fit an age-old pattern for those who seek attention: when failure
abounds —blame the Jews.
As residents of Santa Ana, we are writing to demand that you withdraw
from consideration the intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt
resolution advocating for a ceasefire between the Israeli Defense Forces
(IDF) and Hamas Terrorists operating in the Gaza Strip. Temporarily
putting aside the well -known --voluminous logical, fair-minded, honest
arguments against any such resolution and the horrifying factual
inaccuracies evident in its text, the proposed resolution is a divisive
distraction from the myriad of actual municipal issues we elected you to
resolve.
