As an
Orange County (Placentia) resident who was born in SA and has many SA residents in my immediate family and friend's circle, I
will always feel especially connected to SA. That SA is proposing this resolution is nothing short of visionary. I am proud of the
City Council for taking the brave and difficult step of proposing this resolution and I hope that it passes. I have always been
proud of being from SA and if this passes, I will have another reason to feel immense pride in my hometown, as it will prove that
SA is a city of groundbreaking vision in support of human rights, justice, and sovereignty for all people, which is not easy, given
the United States political incentives to support Israel despite its decades long history of displacement and recent war crimes.
In writing to support the resolution I also write to support you through the backlash you might get, which follow common Zionist
talking points or manipulate Jewish trauma in order to support Zionism. First, this resolution is not antisemitic, as it is not
antisemitic to acknowledge human rights violations, war crimes, and blatant imperialism that are documented and upheld by
non -partisan international organizations such as Human Rights Watch and the United Nations. Passing this resolution would
show that SA is politically sophisticated, and does not obfuscate Israel with Judaism. Israel is a nation state, a political body, with
its roots in a nationalist political movement, not in Judaism. Judaism calls for each person to take upon themselves the
responsibility to better the world towards justice and an ideal state of affairs where we can all experience wholeness, a sense of
peace, and work cooperatively towards a messianic age. It does not follow that indiscriminate bombing resulting in the killing of
15,500 Palestinians (over 6,000 of them children) is in line with Jewish values in any sense of the word. This resolution is not
antisemitic because Israel's actions are not Jewish. Their actions are political; decisions of a president who is currently
undergoing a corruption trail. Anti-antisemitism, the hatred of Jewish people, has risen since the war began, and we must be
clear-eyed enough to focus on calling out true antisemitism and preventing hate crimes rather than be distracted by suggestions
that calling for peace, human development, and protection of citizens, as this resolution does, is antisemitic. The City of SA will
have to ensure that its citizens understand the difference between antisemitism and calling for an end to Israel's war in order to
