Alcala, Abigail
From: Deborah -Debbie Gruner <
Sent: Tuesday, December 5, 2023 1:56 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Agenda Item 19 for 12/5 Santa Ana City Council Meeting
Council members agenda item 19. for today's meeting is extremely concerning. I am not a resident of California
but I was born there, and am a citizen of the United States of America.
More importantly I respect Geneva convention, and have a problem with rape being used as a weapon of war, as
well as a problem with elderly people and children being taken from homes, as well as a problem with peacefull
civilians being attacked. These are not legally acceptable actions of war, not since 1948, and should never be
supported in a court of law.
Although calling for a ceasefire may seem harmless, well meaning, and good hearted because such calls tend to
air on the side of wanting peace for the world .... in this case, it is a call to uproot the basic values I mentioned
above, that exist in civilized society. It is not good enough to claim ignorance, if you intend to be the lawmakers
of this SOCIETY.
A lawmaker has a responsibility to know the meaning of the word apartheid, and to know the meaning of the
word blockade. Lawmakers have a responsibility to not co-opt such important words and to not misappropriate
them, so that their impact when invoked is not watered down.
Demanding a ceasefire from a defensive state that aims to go in to retrieve its civilians, who are still being held
captive and were brutally kidnapped in the most inhuman ways, is not acceptable. (YOU CAN LITERALLY
WATCH ON YOUR PHONE what happened on October 7th,and YOU ALL ARE RESPONSIBLE to do so if
you plan on having an opinion on the issue)
The reason Egypt, UAE, and Jordan helped with the recovery of some hostages and also are EXTREMELY
resistant to the concept of opening their doors to refugees from Gaza, is because they know who HAMAS is and
even THEIR limits on what is acceptable in war were crossed during the October 7 attack. They agree with
Israel on the core values I initially mentioned.
If opposing foreign countries are capable of uniting in recognizing the importance of the basic values
highlighted by Geneva convention, why can't you? I question what could possibly motivate you council
members to consider such horrendous acts like the ones executed on 10.7 as acceptable.
At least acceptable enough for you to demand that the country in charge of retrieving the civilians, and ensuring
such attacks do not repeat, stop their retrieval and securing of its borders.
Should a formal investigation be made of funding accepted by council members, what would be found?
The blood of the hostages still being held captive, will be on your hands, if you demand that the only force on
Earth willing to go in and save them,be told to stop trying to.
Not to mention the blood shed resulting in the emboldening of terrorist organizations who not only become
supported financially but now morally by people not caring enough to be responsible for their own words or
18
