I am requesting that the Santa Ana City Council passes a
resolution as soon as possible supporting an IMMEDIATE AND PERMANENT CEASEFIRE in the Gaza
Strip.
It is imperative that our local officials here in Orange County use their power, influence, and platform to speak
out for the humanity of our Palestinian brothers and sisters.
Many have relatives and family members who are directly impacted by the atrocities committed on the ground. We ask
that Santa Ana City Council be the voice for our communities that are being actively silenced and further marginalized.
Since October 7, members of our communities feel most of the public statements by elected officials furthered
islamophobic and anti -Palestinian sentiment. These statements put our communities at greater risk of hate crimes.
Our government is pouring billions of dollars into funding war crimes, while budgets to support our most vulnerable
communities here are being slashed. Our tax dollars should be invested in providing affordable housing, healthcare, early
childhood education, social services, infrastructure, mental health and other important services to the community.
We look to Santa Ana City Council for leadership when it matters most. Santa Ana is Orange County's hub for social
justice. Actions taken by the Santa Ana city council have a ripple effect that transcends the city's boundaries and shapes
the policies of the county, be it on the issue of sanctuary cities, public budget, or police oversight, inspiring communities
across the county to follow suit.
-Maria Del Rosario Baeza
