Adopt a resolution authorizing the ceremonial street naming of Josephine “Chepa” <br />Andrade Way, along Logan Street from Washington Avenue to Stafford Street. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2023-XXX entitled A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DIRECTING AND AUTHORIZING A CEREMONIAL <br />STREET NAME OF JOSEPHINE “CHEPA” ANDRADE WAY ALONG LOGAN <br />STREET FROM WASHINGTON AVENUE TO STAFFORD STREET <br />2. Direct staff to install two ceremonial signs at the intersections of Logan Street at <br />Washington Avenue and Logan Street at Stafford Street. <br />GOVERNMENT CODE §84308 APPLIES: No <br />DISCUSSION <br />On August 2, 2022, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. NS-3024 and subsequently <br />on June 6, 2023 adopted Ordinance NS-3042, amending the language to restrict the <br />quantity of signs to two, when recognizing the outstanding individuals who have made a <br />significant impact on their communities through the commemorative or honorary naming <br />of streets or intersections. <br />In accordance with the ordinance, Councilmember Hernandez initiated a request to <br />honor Ms. Josephine “Chepa” Andrade as her legacy has made a profound and lasting <br />impact on the Logan neighborhood, where she called home, and throughout the City of <br />Santa Ana. Chepa's family moved to the Logan neighborhood before she was born in <br />1918. Chepa was born December 16, 1926 and resided on Logan until she passed on <br />April 17, 2006. She significantly contributed to her community her entire life and started <br />at the early age of 8. At that young age, she went door-to-door collecting money to help <br />a neighborhood family with food when their father was not able to work due to an <br />accident.
