I am writing about a matter of local concern that also has public relevance. Please see my email below sent to the OC Office of Care Coordination. It was brought to my attention this morning that public comments referencing OC Housing Commissioner James Mai are not distributed to the CoC in accordance with the sender's wishes. Since your City Council and your Housing Authority meet today, please accept this as a public email to the City of Santa Ana. The relevance and subject matter jurisdiction is that several members of the Santa Ana Housing Authority Management also have seats on the OC Care Continuum Board. James Mai is attempting to get himself on as a Board Member at the Care Coordination/ Care Continuum, based on an application he recently submitted. This particular division within the County does not do background checks on applicants, so they did not know his history. It's my understanding even a registered sex offender is eligible to be on the County CoC Board. I was informed that they admitted they are not screening applicants. It's not clear why he is still on the OC Housing Commission since his term expired over a year ago, and he was officially non -renewed. I request this be considered as public comment for the Zoom meeting on Tuesday, and also for the regular Board meeting next Thursday, the 28th. I am sending you an article from Reason magazine. Reason is a respectable and reputable publication. The author is Elizabeth Nolan Brown and the article dates from 2020. By academic standards, it is considered recent and reliable.
