Working predominantly with the Hispanic/Latino community in <br />Santa Ana, TCCDC recognizes the systemic challenges that historically exclude these families from opportunities <br />that lead to upward mobility and long-term economic success. For example, the families we serve face additional <br />immigrant -specific challenges such as language and cultural barriers, proof of income, legal status, and <br />identification barriers that contribute to high rates of intergenerational poverty as well as issues of chronic <br />homelessness, unstable housing, unemployment and crime. Legado Academy addresses the complex challenges <br />faced by LMI communities of color in Santa Ana by integrating two highly -effective programs focused on two key <br />drivers of economic mobility: parent training and financial education. <br />Legado Academy includes our parent training programming, an effective peer -to -peer education and engagement <br />model supports parents and caregivers in raising healthy, caring, and responsible children who are resilient, <br />resourceful, and successful, while also gaining valuable life skills. The program utilizes the Raising Highly Capable <br />Kids (RHCK) Curriculum, an evidence -based parenting program designed to help parents create optimal <br />environments for their children by teaching them to foster the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets or <br />'building blocks' which are based on extensive research in youth development, resiliency, and prevention. These <br />healthy building blocks reduce the impact of negative risk factors on children, such as poverty, toxic stress, <br />homelessness, and addiction. Studies show that these 40 Developmental Assets are proven to promote long-term <br />academic, health, wellness, and economic outcomes. Research from the Search Institute found that the 40 <br />Developmental Assets have a powerful, positive impact on young people— in particular, children and teenagers <br />who demonstrate higher levels of these assets are involved in fewer risky behaviors and are much more likelyto <br />exhibit positive values, such as leadership, good health, diversity, and success in school. However, unfortunately <br />most young people do not have enough assets. Specifically, about 59% of youth ages 11-18, have 20 or fewer <br />Developmental Assets, according to Search Institute surveys. The curriculum is facilitated by Parent Leaders — <br />volunteers recruited and trained to become peer trainers, all of whom have completed the RHCK Curriculum and <br />after seeing the transformation in the lives of their family are committed to helping others in their communities. <br />Following the completion of the parent training component, participants are enrolled in our 7-week financial <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
