90.A. <br /> <br /> COMMENTS <br /> <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br /> <br />John Wesson and Alma Ramirez addressed the Council relative to general <br />concerns. <br /> <br />90.B. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Garcia: <br />· Wished everyone a Happy Cinco de Mayo <br />· Asked Captain George Saadeh to. report on incidents of street racing <br /> activity on Bristol and MacArthur streets. Captain Saadeh noted that <br /> there are two types of street racing'that occurs on City streets: <br /> organized and spur of the moment. The Police Department does have <br /> a strategy for organized street racing. As soon as citizen complaints <br /> are received, additional officers are assigned and enforcement is <br /> increased <br />· Noted that he had received complaints about the removal of median <br /> markers on Harbor; the City Manager responded that the markers were <br /> removed during recent street work but will be replaced <br />· Noted that he would like more interacti~)n with the consultants relative <br /> to the citywide assessment district <br />· Announced that there will be a soccer tournament at Centennial Park <br /> May 30 through June 1, 2003 <br /> <br />Councilmember Solorio: <br />· Asked that the Mayor send a letter relative to retention of funding for <br /> the Senior Nutrition Program <br />· Announced that the annual Celebrate Santa Ana event would be held <br /> Thursday, May 15, 2003 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Double Tree <br /> Hotel in Santa Ana <br />· Congratulated El Sol Charter School on their very successful fund <br /> raising event held downtown on May 2, 2003, and noted that the school <br /> has received tremendous support from the community <br />· Congratulated Mike Metzler on the occasion of his 20th anniversary as <br /> President of the Santa Ana Chamber of Gommerce <br /> <br />Councilmember Christy: <br />· Asked the City Manager to clarify that the learning centers at New <br /> Hope and McFadden were not closing but that there has been a cut <br /> back on part time employment; the City Manager responded that even <br /> though there would be less staffing and there would not be the same <br /> level of tutoring provided, the two ~enters were not going to be closed <br /> by the City.
