ORDINANCE NO. N$'339 ORDERING, CALLING, AND PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL ~N--~AL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA ON THE 4TH DAY OF NOV~2~IBER, 1958, FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUBMITTING A CHARTER AMENDMENT TO ~tE VOTERS OF SAID CITY WHEREAS, because of the rapid increase in the population and size of the City of Santa Ana resulting in increase in the number and complexity of problems confronting said City, the demands upon the time of the members of the City Council have materislly increased, md the requirements which necessitate actual cash expense to be borne by the Councilmen personally, without reimbursement, and be- cause of fae enlarged responsibility now placed upon members of said Council the present salary of $75.00 per month is no longer adequate or sufficient or, in fact, more than enough to repay said Councilmen for their out-of-pocket expense, so that now said compensation shou~ be increased in fairness to those citizens of the City who may here- after be elected to serve as Councilmen of said City. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES NOW, THEREFORE, ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTIONi~ That a special municipal election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of Santa Ana, California on the 4th day of November, 1958, for the purpose of submitting to the electors ~ said City a proposition proposing amendment of Section 402 of the Charter of the City of Santa Ana to provide a monthly compensation for each member of the City Council of ~125.00, in place and stead of the present monthly compensation of 3!75.00, and that said Section be amended so that the same shall read, as follows: "Section 402. CITY COUNCIL: COMPENSATION OF MEMBERS. Each member of the City Council shall receive as compen- sation for his services as such a monthl~ salar~ in the sum of One Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars (~125.00). Further, each m-~mer of the City Council sh~ i receive reimbursement for required travel and other es enses while on official business outside the City as authorized and approved by the City CounciL Absence of a member of the City Council from all regular and special meetings of the City Council during any calendar month shall render him ineli!~ible to receive the monthly sal- ary for such a calendar month unless by permission of the City Council expressed in its official minutes."
