NS- 1598 <br /> <br />A/q ORDINA/qCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AMEND- <br />ING SECTIONS 8-2002, 8-2004, 8-2005 AND <br />8-2006 OF, AND ADDING SECTION 8-2004.5 TO, <br />ARTICLE XI OF CHAPTER 8 OF THE SANTA ANA <br />MUNICIPAL CODE, PERTAINING TO EARTHQUAKE <br />HAZARD REDUCTION IN EXISTING BUILDINGS <br /> <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1: That Section 8-2002 of the Santa Aha Municipal <br />Code, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 8-2002. DEFINITIONS <br /> <br /> Por the purpose of this article, the following <br />terms shall be construed as follows: <br /> <br /> (a) ABBREVIATIONS: Ail numbers, letters, sy~ls, <br />abbreviations and words used in this article, which are not <br />otherwise defined herein, shall have those meanings ascribed <br />to them as found in Chapter 23 of the Uniform Building Code. <br /> <br /> (b) BUILDING: Any structure used or intended for <br />supporting or sheltering any use or occupancy. <br /> <br /> (c) DEPARTMENT: The Department of Planning and Develop- <br />ment Services. <br /> <br /> (d) DIRECTOR: The Director of the Department of <br />Planning an--d~opment Services or his designated represen- <br />tative. <br /> <br /> (e) ESSENTIAL BUILDING: Any structure or building <br />which is used for emergency purposes after an earthquake in <br />order to preserve the peace, health and safety of the general <br />public. Such facilities shall include the following: hospitals <br />and other medical facilities having surgery or emergency <br />treatment areas; fire and police stations; municipal govern- <br />ment disaster operation centers; and public utility and <br />communication buildings deemed to be vital in emergencies. <br /> <br /> (f) HIGH RISK BUILDING: Any building, other than an <br />essential building, having an.occupant load of one hundred <br />(100) occupants or more as determined pursuant to Table <br />No. 33-A of Chapter 33 of the Uniform Building Code. <br /> <br /> EXCEPTION: A high risk building shall not include <br />the following: <br /> <br /> 1. Any building used for its intended purpose, <br />as determined by the Department, for less than twenty (20) <br />hours per week. <br /> <br /> 2. Any building having exterior walls braced <br />with masonry cross walls or wood frame cross walls spaced <br />less than forty (40) feet apart in each story. <br /> <br /> (g) LOT: A parcel of real property shown on an approved <br />final subdivision map or record of survey subdivision map or <br />a recorded parcel described by metes and bounds. <br /> <br /> <br />
