NS-]624 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />AMENDING SECTION 39-28 OF THE SANTA ANA <br />MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO PROTECTION <br />OF THE PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY. <br /> <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> SECTION 1: That Section 39-28 of the Santa Ana <br />Municipal Code, is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 39-~28. Protection of Public Water Supply. <br /> <br /> (A) State regulations adopted: The regulations <br />of the State Department of Public Health (Title 17, California <br />Administrative Code, Sections 7553-7622, inclusive), as they <br />are now in effect or as they may be amended in the future, <br />insofar as the same are applicable to the protection of the <br />water supply of this City, are hereby adopted, incorporated <br />herein and made a part hereof. <br /> <br /> (B) Protection of public water su~l~: No water <br />service connection to any premises of a type specified in <br />subsection (G) hereinbelow shall be installed or maintained <br />unless the public water supply is protected as required by <br />said State regulations and this section. <br /> <br />(C) Approval: <br /> <br /> (1) Each backflow preventive device required <br />hereunder shall be approved by the Department prior to <br />installation, and shall be installed by and at the expense <br />of the customer. <br /> <br /> (2) The Department shall approve backflow preventive <br />devices when the device has received approval by the Foundation <br />for Cross-Connection Control Research of the University of <br />Southern California, and when such device will provide <br />desired service and reliability. <br /> <br />(D) Installation: <br /> <br /> (1) Devices shall be installed at the service <br />connection in an accessible location approved by the Depart- <br />ment. A reduced pressure principle backflow preventive <br />device shall be installed above ground. <br /> <br /> (2) Where the maximum pressure in the street <br />water main e~fceeds 150 psi, a pressure regulator set at 150 <br />psi or less shall be installed upstream of the backflow <br />preventive device. <br /> <br /> (3) Backflow preventive devices shall have at <br />least the same cross-sectional area as the water meter. In <br />those instances where it is determined that a continuous <br />water supply is necessary, two sets of backflow preventive <br />devices shall be installed in parallel. Where parallel <br />devices are required, the sum of the cross-sectional areas <br />of the devices shall be at least equivalent to the cross- <br />sectional area of the meter. <br /> <br /> <br />
