NS- 1909 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />AMENDING SECTION 8-2002 OF THE SANTA ANA <br />MUNICIPAL CODE REDEFINING CERTAIN DEFINI- <br />TIONS REGARDING EARTHQUAKE HAZARD REDUCTION. <br /> <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA DOES ORDAIN <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />SECTION 1: That Section 8-2002 of the Santa Ana Municipal <br />Code is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 8-2002. Definitions. <br /> <br /> For the purpose of this article, the following terms <br />shall be construed as follows: <br /> <br />(a) <br /> <br />Abbreviations: Ail numbers, letters, symbols, <br />abbreviations and words used in this article, <br />which are not otherwise defined herein, shall <br />have those meanings ascribed to them as found in <br />Chapter 23 of the Uniform Building Code. <br /> <br />(b) Building: Any structure used or intended for <br /> supporting or sheltering any use or occupancy. <br /> <br />(c) Department: The department of building safety. <br /> <br />(d) <br /> <br />Director: The director of the department of <br />building safety who is the building official or <br />his designated representative. <br /> <br />(e) <br /> <br />Essential building: Any structure or building <br />which is used for emergency purposes after an <br />earthquake in order to preserve the peace, health <br />and safety of the general public. Such <br />facilities shall include the following: <br />Hospitals and other medical facilities having <br />surgery or emergency treatment areas; fire and <br />police stations; municipal government disaster <br />operation centers; and public utility and <br />communication buildings deemed to be vital in <br />emergencies. <br /> <br />(f) <br /> <br />High risk building: Any building, other than an <br />essential building, having an occupant load of <br />one hundred (100) occupants or more as determined <br />pursuant to Table No. 33-A of Chapter 33 of the <br />Uniform Building Code. <br /> <br /> <br />
