Same--Temporary. <br /> <br /> Members of the reserve forces of the United States, or the <br />National Guard, granted temporary leave when ordered to duty, in <br />accordance with the Military and Veterans Code, Will be granted <br />leave with pay for not to exceed thirty (30) calendar days in each <br />calendar year after one year's service with the city, upon <br />presenting satisfactory proof of orders to and from such temporary <br />active duties. <br /> <br />Sec. 9-145. Jury and witness leave. <br /> <br /> When an employee is called to serve as a juror or witness in <br />any court action, he or she shall be allowed leave for the time <br />actually required for such service, without loss of pay or loss of <br />accumulated vacation time. Each employee called for such service <br />shall present to his or her department head for examination the <br />subpoena calling him/her to such service and shall pay into the <br />city treasury the fees collected for such service, with the <br />exception of reimbursement for transportation expenses, if any. <br /> <br />DIVISION 2. SICK LEAVE <br /> <br />SeC. 9-160. Definition. <br /> <br /> Sick leave is construed to mean absence because of an illness <br />that will prevent the employee from performing the duties of his or <br />her position or exposure to a contagious disease requiring <br />retention in quarantine. Sick leave granted for purposes other than <br />illness of the employee concerned shall be included in the sick <br />leave authorized in section 9-163. <br /> <br />Sec. 9-161. Authorized only when necessary. <br /> <br /> Sick leave shall not be considered as a right which an <br />employee may use at his or her discretion, but shall be allowed <br />only in case of necessity and actual sickness or disability. <br /> <br />Sec. 9-162. Accrual. <br /> <br /> An employee shall be entitled to one day of sick leave for <br />each full calendar month of service during which he or she is <br />employed by the city with pay; provided, however, any absence on <br />sick leave for a period in excess of fifteen (15) consecutive <br />calendar days shall not be considered as service for sick leave <br />accrual purposes. <br /> <br />36 <br /> <br /> <br />
