Council Chambers. <br /> <br />Santa Ana City Hall. <br /> <br />January 18, 1937. 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />City Council met in regular session. <br /> <br />Meeting called to order by the City Clerk. <br /> <br />Present: Trustees Plummet W. Bruns, Joseph P. Smith, <br /> W. H. Penn, Ernest H. Layton. <br /> <br />Absent: Trustees Fred C. Rowland. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Bruns and <br />carried, Trustee Layton was appointed Mayor Pro Tem <br />in the absence of Mayor Rowland. <br /> <br />Each Trustee having received a copy of the Minutes, <br />further reading of the Minutes of January 4th, 1937, <br />was dispensed with and the Minutes approved on motion <br />of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Penn and carried. <br /> <br />Request of <br /> <br />J. O. Gulledge. <br /> <br />In Re <br /> <br />Communication <br /> <br />B. E. Lo ckhart. <br /> <br />In Re <br /> <br />Electric Signs. <br /> <br />In Re <br /> <br />Electric Sign. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Bruns, seconded by Smith and carried, <br />the communication of J. 0. Gulledge requesting some form of <br />relief from outside sprayers comiD~ to Santa Ana and making <br />house to house canvass for citrus tree spraying on city lots. <br />was referred to a committee ~ ?rustees Penn, Layton and Cit <br />Attorney for recommendation. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Penn and carried, <br />the communication of B. E. Dawson requesting reinstatement <br />as a special police officer to carry on his merchant patrol <br />work and making formal application for the territory coverin <br />the area of Main Street, Washington to Walnut Street and tha <br />territory east to Santa Fe Street, was referred to the Police <br />Commissioner, Police Chief and City Attorney. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Penn and carried, <br />the committee appointed to investigate the applications to <br />conduct merchant patrols in Santa Aha, was granted an addi- <br />tional two weeks time. <br /> <br />On recommendation of the committee appointed to investigate <br />and on motion of Trustee Smith, seconded by Penn and carried, <br />the application of F. W. Lockhart for reinstatement as Mer- <br />chant patrol, was denied. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Bruns and carried, <br />the applications of electrical contractors to hang electric <br />signs for Kelley Drug Store at 902 W. Fourth Street and for <br />A.B.C. Distributors Company at 302 E. Fifth Street, were <br />granted under the supervision of the Electrical Inspector. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Penn, seconded by Bruns and carried, <br />the application of the powell Neon Sign Company to hang an <br />electric sign for Children's Bootery at 407 N. Broadway, was <br />granted subject to the approval of the Electrical Inspector <br /> <br /> <br />
