<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Heed and carried, request
<br />of Eleanor Fuller for extension on leave of absence was referred
<br />to Attorney Colwel$ and Auditor Martien for study and recommend-
<br />ation and to report back at the next meeting.

<br />Copy of communication addressed to' Civil Service Board from
<br />William W. Garvin requesting six months leave of absence effe
<br />Feb. l, 1948 and terminating July 31, 1948, was read and on motio
<br />of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, request was
<br />granted subject to Civil Service Ordinance.

<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried,
<br />communication from Huth M. Keele, Personnel Clerk, stating her
<br />intention to vacat~ position effective Jan. 15, 1948, as
<br />was received and filed.
<br />
<br />On recommendation of City Engineer and on motion of Trustee Reed,
<br />seconded by Cheney and carried, Engineer was instructed to install
<br />two Sodium Vapor Lights at Fruit St. and A.T.&.S.F. Ry. crossing
<br />and on 17th St. at A.T.&.S.F. Ry. crossing.

<br />Communication was read from City Engineer advising that street
<br />improvements on Freeman Street within the boundaries of Tract No.
<br />1228 have been completed, and on motion of Trustee Chandler,
<br />seconded by Cheney and carried, Clerk was ~thorized to release
<br />check of En~net C. Rogers, in the amount of $4500.00 covering
<br />improvements in said Tract.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from Secy. Planning Commission stating
<br />that Council be requested to secure furt~r information from B6ard
<br />of SuperviSors for Civic Center Expansion Program and on motion
<br />of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, Mayor was
<br />directed to contact Board of Supervisors to determine date of
<br />meeting, and communication received and filed.
<br />
<br />Communication was read from Dale Griggs, Secy. Forestry Board
<br />stating that final drafting of park plan was approved and that
<br />new park be named "Santa Ana City Memorial Park".
<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried,
<br />communication waa received and filed, plan approved and official
<br />name of park designated as "Santa Ana City Memorial Park".
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried,
<br />communication from Acting Secretary of Joint Committee for the
<br />proposed park and co~aunication of President Recreation Commission
<br />recommending that Council accept the park plan, as submitted, were
<br />received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried,
<br />construction of the proposed park was placed under the supervision
<br />of the FOrestry Board.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried,
<br />Chairman was authorized to appoint a committee to receive donatiol
<br />placques, etc. for the proposed park. ChaiEnan appointed Park
<br />Superintendent Griggs as Chairman; Planning Consultant Parks,
<br />Recreation Superintendent Teel and Trustee Chandler on the
<br />committee.
<br />
<br />Communication from Planning Consultant, together with committee
<br />report, recommending establish~sntJof Fire District No. 2 in new
<br />areas, were read and on motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chene
<br />and carried, Chair was authorized to appoint a committee to give
<br />Eatter further stddy and report back. Chair appointed Attorney
<br />Colwell, as Chairman, Planning Consultant Parks, Fire Chief Gates
<br />and B~ilding'Inspector Rasmussen, on this committee.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Cheney and carried,
<br />notifications of the State Board of Equalization of alcoholic
<br />beverage applications made by Albert C. Furlow and Joseph D. Splan~
<br />1323 W. 4th St., and Mrs. Bil!ie J. Sara, 1211 E. 1st St., were
<br />received and filed.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Reed and carried,
<br />applications of Morris Desmond Conrad, Robert C. ~llen, Jack W.
<br />Baker, Thomas J. Ham, Linden Manuel Hanes, and Douglas Wa2ne Wylie
<br />to drive taxicabs were granted and Clerk authorized to issue
<br />licenses.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Heed and carried, claim of
<br />Frank Gilliland and Nellie Gilliland for damages and injuries
<br />sustained on October llth, 1947, in the amount of $1264.08, was
<br />referred to City Attorney for recommendation.
<br />
<br />On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, monthly
<br />report of Police Department for Dec. 1947 and annual report for
<br />1947; repots of Juvenile Bureau for Dec. 19~7 and annual report of
<br />Fire Department for 1947, were received and filed.
<br />
<br />Recommendation of Planning Commission to amend Zoning Ordinance to
<br />reclassify the south half of Block "B", Fisher Tract, from the
<br />R-2 District to the C-2, being frontage on the no~th side of First
<br />Street between Daisy and Townsend Streets, in accordance with
<br />Spplication or. Fred E. Smith, was read and on motion of Trustee
<br />Chandler, seconded by Reed and carried, Clerk was instructed to
<br />publish a notice of hearing ten days prior to City Council meeting
<br />to be held February 16th, 1948, relative to rezoning of said
<br />property.
