On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, April reports of Police Dept. and Juvenile Bureau, were received and filed. On motion of T~ustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, communication from Earl Warren, Governor,reference Housing and Rent Act as amended March 30, 1949, together with Report and Recomendations of the Advisory Committee on rent control of the League of California Cities, was received, filed and Council, as a whole, instructed to study these documents. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried, proper authorities were authorized to execute agreement between City and Santa Ana Junior Chamber of Commerce, dated May 16, 1949, covering contribution of $1000.00 for advertising purposes. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Reed and carried, proper authorities were authorized to execute agreement between City and Santa Aha Conm~unity Players, dated May 16, 1949, covering contribution of $280.00 for advertising purposes. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Mandy and carried, the recomendation of the Planning Commission that a variance be denied to W.S. and Hazel N. Proctor to convert a single-family dwelling at 924 N. Lowell St. into a dupSex, was approved and variance denied. On motion of Trustee Chandler, seconded by Mandy and carried, the recommendation of the Planning Commission that a variance be granted to 0rpha L. Donaldson to establish a parking lot in the rear of 1330 No. Main St., was approved and variance granted. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Chandler and carried, Auditor and Attorney were authorized to negotiate a contract for advertising benches, which contract shall include a performance bond to cover at least first yearts estimated rental; committee to report back. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, request of Building Inspector that Electrical Inspector be granted leave of absence for thirty days td enter military service, fiftee~ days of which shall be with pay, was granted and salary of tempora~ Electrical Inspector shall not exceed first step in salary range of such classification. On motion of Trustee Mandy, seconded by Reed and carried, Auditor was authorized to negotiate for sale of surplus equipment located in the City Yard.
