Council Chamber <br />Santa A~ City Hall <br />February 20, 1950. <br /> <br />2:00 P.M. <br /> <br />City Council met in regular session. <br />Meeting called to order by the Mayor. <br /> <br />Present: Trustees <br /> <br />Absent: Trustees <br /> <br />W.J.Cheney, Courtney R. Chandler, <br />John W. Martin Jr., Virgil H. Reed, <br />Allen A. Mandy. <br />None <br /> <br />Each member of the City Council having received copies of <br />the Minutes of February 6th, 1950, further reading of the <br />Minutes was dispensed with and apprSved on motion of <br />Trustee Chandler, seconded by Martin and carried. <br /> # <br /> <br />In Re <br />Petitions <br />4th St. <br />parking <br /> <br />A petition was read signed by 187 downtown merchants protesting <br />parallel parking on Fourth Street. Frank E. Evans appeared <br />before the Board stating 100% of the merchants strongly opposed <br /> <br />changing the parking on 4th Street. The Clerk again read <br /> <br />communication from Traffic Safety Commission recommending that <br /> <br />parallel parking replace vertical parking on 4th Street. On <br /> <br />motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Oheney and carried, the <br /> <br />recommendation of the Traffic Safety Commission was disapproved <br /> <br />In Re <br />Petition <br />Broadway <br /> ~arallel parking <br /> <br />and petition filed. <br /># <br />A petition was re~d signed by 48 downtown merchants protesting <br />parallel parking on $th Street and on Broadway. Harry Macros <br /> <br />appeared before the B~a~d protesting parallel parking on Broadway. <br /> <br />Frank E. Evans and Mac Guttm~n stated their reasons for opposing <br /> <br />parallel parking. On motion of Trustee Martin, seconded by Reed <br /> <br />and carried, petition was referred to Council to t~ke under <br /> <br /> ~n Re <br />Award of bid <br />Squad truck <br />Fire Dept. <br /> <br />ment for further action. <br /># <br /> <br />On recommendation of the committee and on motion of Trustee <br /> <br />Chandler, seconded by Cheney and carried, the bid of W.W. Woods, <br />in the amount of $12,618.79 was accepted covering the furnishing <br /> <br />In Re <br />Request <br />Housewivess <br />Anti-Smudge Committee <br /> <br />of a squad truakfor the Fire Department. <br /> <br />On motion of Tx-astee Reed, seconded by Chandler and carried, the <br />request of Mrs, B.C.Clark, Chairman, Housewives~ Anti-Smudge <br />Commlttee to solicit signatures for the purpose of smudge contro~ <br /> <br />at the northeast corner of 4th and Sycamore Streets and the <br /> <br />west corner of 4th and Main Streets, for the period February 22nd <br /> <br />In Re <br />Minutes <br />J.O.Sewer <br /> <br />to March 8th inclusive, was granted. <br /># <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Martin and carried, <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />Minutes of ~he Executive Board of the Joint 0utfall Sewer Meeting <br /> <br />held at Anaheim, February 2nd, 1950, were received, approved and <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communication <br />Southwest Airways Co. <br /> <br />filed. <br /># <br /> <br />On motion of Tra~stee Martin, seconded by Reed and ca~ried, <br /> <br />oommmulication from Southwest Airways Company, was received and <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communication <br />Div. of Hys. <br />Bpeed limit on <br />Grand Ave. <br /> <br />filed. <br /># <br />Communication was read from District Engineer, Division of <br />advising that order establishing a 35 mile hour zone on Grand <br />Ave., was rescinded, and on motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communication <br /> ~lmer R. Guy <br /> <br />Cheney and carried, communication was filed. <br /># <br /> <br />Comm~mioation was read from Elmer R. Guy, Attorney, <br /> <br />suggesting <br /> <br />that p~klng space be provided for legal counsel and Jurors trans- <br /> <br /> <br />
