City Council met in regular session. <br />Meeting called to order by the Mayor. <br /> <br />Present: Trustees <br />Absent: Trustees <br /> <br />Council Chamber <br />Santa Aha City Hall <br />February 15, 1951. 1:00 P.M. <br /> <br />Courtney R. Chandler, John W. Martin Jr., <br />Virgil H~ Reed, Allen A. Mandy. <br />W.J.Cheney <br /> <br /> their <br />The Clerk read letter signed by Jr. and Sr. Chamber of Commerce statin <br /> <br />reasons why No. 1 Fire Station should not be located on city owned <br />property on West Third Street between Birch and Ross Streets. Trusts <br /> <br />Each member of the City Council having received copies of the <br />Minutes of February 1, 1951, reading of the Minutes was <br />dispensed with and approved on motion of Trustee Chandler, <br />seconded by Reed and carried. <br /> # <br />In Re <br />Communication <br />Jr. Chamber of <br />Commerce <br /> (fire sta.site) <br /> <br />Chandler moved that a committee be appointed. Motion lost for lack <br /> <br />of a second. T~etee Reed moved that representatives of the Jr. <br /> <br />Chamber of Commerce be heard reference this matter. Motion lost for <br />lack of a second. Milford Dahl, spokesman for the Jr. Chamber of <br /> <br />Commerce protested location of the No. 1 Fire Station on the West Thir~ <br /> <br />Street site and requested that a committee be appointed to determine <br /> <br />the best location for the fire station. W.H.Spurgeon stated that he <br /> <br />did not understand why the opinions of the Fire Chief and Board of <br /> <br />Fire Underwriters were disregarded. Ralph E. Watson suggested that <br /> <br />Council name a non-partisan group to further investigate the matter. <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Martin, seconded by Reed and carried, communioati, <br /> and Sr. <br />from J~.~Chamber of Commerce was received and filed. The City Attorn, <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communication <br />20-30 Club <br />(fire sta.slte) <br /> <br />Y <br /> <br />read Section 37111 of the Government Code which states that "land <br /> <br />purchased for parks or other purposes to be used for construction of <br />buildings must be declared a necessity by a fou~-fifths vote of Councii". <br />The Clerk read letter from The 20-30 Club objecting to location of the <br />No. 1 Fire Station on West Third Street between Birch and Ross Streets~ <br />James R. Mitchell, representing the 2S-30 Club appeared before the <br /> <br />Board and u~ged continued use of the property as a city parking lot. <br /> <br />In Re <br />Communication <br />Fire Marshal <br />(self-service <br />stations)~ <br /> <br />On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Martin and carried, the <br /> <br />communication was received and filed. <br /> <br />Paul Dutton appeared before the Board stating his reasons why the <br />Ordinance legalizing operation of self-service stations should not be <br />adopted. The Clerk read communication from J.J.Hansen, Fire Marshal, <br />requesting that Ordinance No. 1251 banning operation of self-service <br /> <br />In Re <br />Ordinance regulating <br />operation of self- <br />service stations <br /> <br />stations be, upheld. On motion of Trustee Reed, seconded by Martin <br /> <br /> In Re <br /> Communication <br />~Civio Beautification <br />Committee <br /> <br />and carried, communication was received and filed. <br /> <br />It was moved by Trustee Martin that since no one requested that <br />Ordinance banning operation of self-service stations be amended, the <br />Ordinance legalizing operation of self-service stations not be adopted, <br />T~ustee Chandler seconded the motion. <br /> <br />Roll Call Ayes Trustees Courtney R.
