56 <br /> <br />Paragrapho 6 and ? of Specifications 82 shall be amended <br />so as to read as follows:- <br /> <br /> Crushed Rock foundation. <br /> <br /> After the sub-grade shall have been prepared as above speci- <br /> fied a~d ~oceptsd by the Street Superintendent, a layer of crushed <br /> rook which will pass through a two (2) inch screen and be retained <br /> on a one (X) inch screen graduated in size and brought to a uniform <br /> surface w+.th a road grader, shall be placed to such a depth that <br /> after being thoroughly sprinkled and rolled with a roller having a~ <br /> effective compressive w~ht of not less than three hundred and fifty <br /> (~0) pounds to the lineal inch width of tire, it shall have a depth <br /> O~ one and one-half (1~) inches. The rolling shall continue until <br /> the stone foundation forms one solid mass which will not yield uhder <br /> the weight of the roller. In case the crushed rock base appears <br /> too open' or porous the voids shall be filled by tming crushed rock <br /> which will pass a 1 inch screen and be retained on a 1/~ inch screen. <br /> ~pon .the base. prepared as above specified shall be applied liquid <br /> asphaltu~ at the rate of (~) one-half o~ ~ gallon to s~oh square <br /> y~rd of surface. The edge of the concrete gutter shall be painted <br /> with hot asphaltic oil before the crushed rock is spread on the <br /> sub -gr ads. <br /> <br /> The crushed rock shall be a hard durable material that <br /> and <br /> crushes with sharp fr~oturesAshall he uniform in character. It shall <br /> <br /> contain no rock that has not been fractured and shall not contain <br /> <br /> more than ten (10) per cent cf rock h&ving rounded sides. <br /> <br /> ?. <br /> <br /> Wearing Surface. <br /> <br /> After the crushed rock base shall have been prepared as above speci- <br /> fied, examined by the Street Superintendent and a certificate of <br /> acceptance issued by him, a layer of crushed rock consisting of rook <br /> which shall pass through a one (1) inch screen and ~ retained on a <br /> one-fourth (1/4) inch screen graduated in size, shall be evenly spread <br /> over the rock base with a road grader to such thickness that after <br /> being thoroughly pprinkled and rolled with a roller having ~n effective <br /> Compressive weight of not less than three hundred and fifty (~0)pounde <br /> to the lineal inch width of tire, it shall be one-half (1/~) inch in <br /> thickness. <br /> <br /> This layer of crushed rook shall be spread and made parallel with <br /> the finished grade and cross-section. <br /> <br /> Liquid asphaltum shall then be applied at the rate of one-half <br /> (1/~) gallon to each square yard of street surface, after which a layer <br /> of rock screenings (one-half (1/~)lnch and under in ei~e and free <br /> from dust~ shall be spread in sufficient quantity to get a smooth even <br /> <br /> s~trface and to absorb all surplus oil. The surface shall then be sprinkled <br />with a wagon sprinkler and rolled until it becomes hard and smooth and is <br /> <br /> <br />
