RESOLUTION NO. 2539 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY_ OF SANTA <br />ANA D~LAR!NG THERESULT OF SPECIAL kCJNICIPALELECTION <br />HELD NOVE~ER 16th, 1937. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a special municipal election upon an initiative petition was held @nd <br />conducted in the City of Santa Ana, California, on Tuesday, the 16th day of November, <br />1937, as required by law, pursuant to the provisions of an act of the Legislat~are <br />entitled "An Act to provide for direct legislation by Cities and Towns, including <br />Initiative and Referendum" (Stats. Ex. Sess. (gll p 131); and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it appears that notice of said election was duly and legally given, <br />that notice of proposition to be voted on thereat was duly given, and that sample <br />ballots, notices of polling places and copies of the ordinance submitted to the voters <br />thereat were duly and legally mailed to each qualified elector in the City of Santa <br />Ana as required by law; and <br /> <br /> THAT voting precincts were properly established, that election officers were <br />appointed and election supplies were furnished as required by law, and that in all <br />respects said election.was held and conducted and the votes cast thereat received and <br />canvassed, and the returns thereof, made and declared in time, form and manner as <br />required by law; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of said City has met at the Council Chamber of <br />said Council on Monday, the 29nd day of November, 1937, at the hour of 7:30 P.M. to <br />canvass the returns of said election and as a result of which canvass, the said City <br />Council finds that the number of votes cast, the proposition voted upon and other <br />matters required by law to be determined by the said City Council are hereby determined <br />to be as hereinafter stated: <br /> <br /> NOW, THF~EFOHE, PE IT RESOLVED, by the City CoUncil of the City of Santa Aha <br /> <br /> as follows: <br /> <br />That said special election was held and conducted in the City of Santa Aha <br />on Tuesday, the l~th day of November, 1937, in time, form and manner as required by law. <br /> <br /> That at the said special election there was submitted to the voters of said <br />City a proposition for the adoption of an ordinance providing for Civil Service for the <br />members of Police Department and Fire Department, as was more particularly set forth <br />in Resolution No. 2534 of this City CoUncil; <br /> <br /> That for the purpose of said election there were 23 voting precincts <br />established cbnsisting of a consolidation of rogular election precincts last established <br />for holding general State and County elections in the manner and form as prescribed in <br />said Resolution No. 2534 of the 0~ity Council of the City of Santa Ana; <br /> <br /> That the total number of votes cast in said City, exclusive of the absentee <br />votes was 4V73. <br /> <br /> That the whole number of absentee votes cast in said election was 5. <br /> <br /> That the total number of all votes cast at said election was 4778. <br /> <br /> That the proDosition voted upon, the number of votes given in each precinct <br />for and against said proposition, together with the whole number of votes Riven for or <br />against aaidproposition in the entire City are as follows: <br /> <br /> "PROPOSITION NO. 1. INITIATIVE ~ASURE. <br /> <br /> "Shall the ordinance entitled 'AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY <br /> OF SANTA AMA, CREATING A CIVIL SNRVICE BOARD, PROVIDING <br /> FOR THE PLACING OF ~,~ERS OF THE POLICE D~PARTMENT, AND <br /> THE FIRE DEPARTMET~T, UNDER CIVIL SFRVICE~ be adopted? <br /> <br /> <br />
