Pd~SOLUTION 64-116 ORDERING THAT A PROPOSITION <br />BE SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY AT A <br />SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE CALLED FOR <br />SAID PROPOSITION AND TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 3RD, <br />1964, TO AMEND SECTION 402 OF THE CHARTER OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA TO INCREASE THE SALARY OF THE <br />COUNCILMEN AND OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the size of the City of Santa Aha has considerably <br />increased and the problems confronting the City Government have <br />become more numerous and more complex with each passing month, so <br />that the de~ands upon the time of the members of the City Council <br />and the requirements of attendance at meetings of va=bus sorts have <br />nearly doubled in the past two years, requiring expenditures for <br />transportation and for other things which must be paid by the <br />Council members from their own funds so that the existing salary of <br />$125.00 per month is no longer adequate, sufficient or, in fact, <br />any c~pensation for the services now rendered by Councilmen; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council on its <br />own motion hereby authorizes and directs that a propo~ion be sub- <br />mitted to the electors of the City proposing amendment of Section 402 <br />of the Charter of the city of Santa Aha to provide a monthly compen- <br />sation of each member of the City Council of $250.00 and the member <br />elected by the City Council as Mayor to receive an additional amount <br />of $50.00 each month, and that said section be amended so that the <br />same will read as follows: <br /> <br /> "SECTION 402. CITY COUNCIL: COMPENSATION OF MEMBERS. <br /> Each member of the City Council shall receive as compensa- <br />tion for his services as such a monthly salary in the sum of <br />Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($250.00). The member elected <br />by the City Council to fill the office of Mayor shall receive <br />the additional amount of Fifty Dollars ($50.00) for each month <br />said member shall fill the office of Mayor. Further, each <br />member of the City Council shall receive reimbursement for <br />required travel and other expenses while on official business <br />of the city as authorized and approved by the City Council. <br /> Absence of a member of the City Council from all regular <br />and special meetings of the City Council during any calendar <br />month shall render him ineligible to receive the monthly <br />salary for such a calendar month unless by permission of the <br />City Council expressed in its official minutes." <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That the proposition to be placed <br />upon the ballot for submission to the Electors of the City be in the <br />words and figures as follows: <br /> <br />Shall the Charter of the City of Santa Ana <br />be amended by a~nd~ng Section 402 thereof <br />to provide that each member of the City <br />Council shall receive $250.00 each month <br />as compensation for his services and the <br />member elected by the City Council to fill <br />the office of Mayor shall receive an <br />additional amount each month of $50.00? <br /> <br />) : : <br />) YES : : <br />) : : <br />) : : <br /> <br />) NO : : <br />) : : <br />) : : <br /> <br /> The Clerk of the Council is hereby directed to print the <br />proposed amendment to the Charter of the city of Santa Ana once in a <br />newspaper of general circulation in the City, and in all the editions <br />thereof issued during the day of publication, not less than 40 days <br />nor more than 60 days before said election; to publish notice <br />inviting arguments against said proposition; to cause said amendment <br />to be printed in type of not less than 10-point together with <br />arguments for and against said proposition, and cause a copy thereof <br /> <br /> <br />
