fications of the fire department, and all Siamese and base <br />connections to be of Santa Ana Fire Department standard. <br />Stand pipes must be capable of standing hydrostatic pressure <br />of 300 lbs. to the sq. inch throughout their entire length. <br /> All stand pipes to be kept filled and under pressure <br />and ready for instant use at all times. This section shall <br />apply to buildings already erected or to be erected. <br /> Before a permit shall be issued for any buildings <br />requiring stand pipes the location of such stand pipes must <br />be marked on the plans. <br /> Every building already erected or to be erected <br />having a basement which is used or to be used for the storage <br />of merchandise, shall be provided with ground floor pipe casing <br />holes constructed in and through the floor of the first story <br />of the building as follows: Pipe casing holes must extend <br />from the level of the floor through and below the ceiling of <br />the basement or below the bottom of the floor Joists, if there <br />is no ceiling, and be so constructed as to enable the fire <br />department to put a water circulating nozzle through for the <br />prompt extinguishing of any fire occurring in the basement. <br />These holes must hot be less than g" in the clear in diameter, <br />and must be provided with a metal cover flush with the floor. <br />Both the cover and casing o£ the hole to be constructed of non- <br />corrosive metal. Both the construction and the location of <br />such holes shall be subject to the approval of the chief of <br />the fire department and there shall be at least one such inlet <br />hole for every 5© ft. of width or depth of the building but <br />there will not be more than one hole required for every lPO0 <br />sq. ft. of ground floor area, unless the basement is divided <br />into rooms of smaller area. <br /> No obstruction shall be placed over such inlet <br />holes and any material stored in the Oasement shall be kept <br />clear of such holes in such a way as not to interfere with <br />the proper workings of th~ water circulating nozzle used by <br />the fire department. <br /> The Chief of the Fire Department shall notify <br />the owners of all buildings now erected which will come under <br />the provisions of this sectlon, to place ground floor pipe <br />casing holes within 30 days of such notice. In case of any <br />building to be erected which would come under the prov~ ions <br />of this section, no permit sha~l be granted until these pipe <br />casing holes are properly located and shown on the plans of <br />the first floor. <br /> Section 27. Every building used as a theater or <br />for public entertainment must be built to confor~ with the <br />requirements of this section. <br /> Any building already built which is to.be used <br />or is used for theatrical purposes or public entertainments <br />need not conform with the requirements of this section re- <br />garding seating aisles, stairways and other means of exit and <br />ontrance and means of fighting fire. <br /> No building shall be open to the publlc for <br />theatrical purposes until such shall be approved in writing <br />by the building inspector and the chief of the fire department <br />and such approval shall be given when all requirements a~ <br />set forth in this section shall have been met, <br /> There shall be exits provided on both sides of <br />the auditorium connecting either with an open court, street <br />or exit street corridor as described hereln. Where such <br />corridor is used, such corridor must run the full length of <br />the auditorium and connect directly with the street and there <br />must be no connection between the main entrance or lobby and <br />this corridor. Such corridor must be separated from the <br />auditorium by a fireproof wall and where the corridor is en- <br />closed in the building, the ceiling and both sides of the <br />corridor must be made of fireproof construction. There must <br />be at least two exits on each side of the building from the <br />main floor and two exits on each side of each balcony or gallery. <br />Each exit shall be at least 5' O, in width in the clear. Where <br />there are balconies or galleries above the level of the floor <br />of this exit corridor, there shall be stair cases (fire escapes) <br />extending from the exits in the balcony starting from a landing <br />not les~ than 4 fi. in width connected directly with the exit <br />of the gallery or balcony. Such staircases shall have risers <br />not over 8~" high and treads not less than 9 "net width. <br />The staircase from the topmost balcony to the one next below <br />must be at least 30" wide in the clear, and must increase 6" <br />in width below each balcony. Where the seating capacity of the <br />auditorium exceeds one thousand people this width of t~e stair- <br />ways must be increased 6" for every increase in the seating <br />capacity of 800 people or fraction thereof. All of these <br />stairways and ladnings must be constructed of absolutely fire- <br />proof materi~l, and must be designed to sustain a live load <br />of 200 lbs per sq. ft. Where theater is built inside and <br />forming part of another building, these exits may open direct- <br />ly into corridors in the other part of the building, but there <br />must be a firewall between the audotorium proper and such part <br />of the building and all stairways and corridors which serves <br />as exits must meet the requirements of this section as to size. <br />The floor of exit corridors aa specified herein must be carried <br />their full length without steps, but a gradient of not more <br />than 1 to 12 may be used to make up for a difference in level. <br />The exit corridors must be not less than ?'O" in width where <br />the seating capacity of the theater is one thousand people, <br />and lO' O" in width when one thousand is exceeded. <br /> <br /> <br />
